To qualify for any Florida truck driving schools, you need to be a Florida resident and to be over 18 years. There are some requirements to be able to drive vehicles with weight more than twenty six thousand lbs or to transport dangerous/risky material (chemicals etc.) within or between states. Those requirements are a special driving course and a CDL and you can obtain both from any good Florida truck driving schools. The course is both theoretical (written) and practical (driving) one designed to test the safety of the driver. Besides, truck drivers need to undergo testing (sight, sound and drug) and physical exams every two years for fitness checking.
This means one must pass a written and driving exam designed to determine a person’s capability to operate a truck safely within the state or between states. Florida truck driving schools should ensure that their truck drivers pass the physical exams as well as vision, hearing and drug tests every two years.
You must choose that Florida truck driving school which can provide you with live driving time (minimum 44-hours), and is recognized by a reputed organisation. Good institutions in Florida may charge you a first-rate chunk of money, yet they provide you with the quality worth it.
There are few nationally recognised Florida truck driving schools, among them one, the National Truck Drivers School that gives the CDL Prepared Independent Trucker programs and the Commercial Driver’s License Preparation program. The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and the U.S. Department of Education have approved these programs. Moreover, they have been training drivers since 1978. Their campus is at Orange Park.
Among the Florida truck driving schools, this school, National Training, Inc. (NTI), has a unique feature of providing training under the Vocational Rehabilitation Participants and the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Moreover, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles have given their approval.
NTI, a Florida truck driving school, provides extensive training to its students at its complex at Green Cove Springs. Its training program, “the Diesel Semi Tractor Trailer Driver Programs”, provides 160-hours (three weeks) of intense training in the latest models of vehicles, up to 48-foot trailers and 13 speed transmission having engine power of the range of 300-450 HP. They also give placement services.
A truck driving school, SAGE considered among the best US truck driving schools programs, provides extensive commercial driver training programs and on-hands experience recognised by the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI), which is the required for any Florida truck driving schools. They have been training for over two decades and their training program is included in the standard curriculum of the technical schools (Lake City Community College at Lake City Florida, Indian River Community College in Riviera Beach etc.).
The Department of Transportation has drafted a “Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers” that determines the training programs for the truck drivers at these Florida truck driving schools. Among them is a basic entry level training program; very popular program, TTD150, a 5-week program of 150-hours of instructions plus 44-hours of hands-on driving. Besides this, refresher courses are available. Hence, before joining any Florida truck driving schools, you need to consider their accreditation and certification.
These are various types of Florida truck driving schools. For more information, search online for the best program to suit your needs. And remember, the cheapest are almost never the best. When in a hurry, enroll in the transport company-organized training. My personal tip for a trouble-free CDL ticket.
